Ayurveda Understands the Significance of Natural Urges

The way Ayurveda has understood the significance of natural urges is simply outstanding. Thousands of years ago Ayurveda experts had precise knowledge about the natural urges which arise in body and mind from time to time. They had developed a very scientific approach towards these urges and designed a strategy for dealing with them. They were convinced that these urges should be dealt with in appropriate manner whenever they arise. If not dealt correctly, they can affect the body and mind adversely. So they classified the urges into two groups: the urges which should always be suppressed and the urges which should never be suppressed. Not suppressing the urges from the first group can have numerous negative effects on health. Same is true if the urges from the second group are suppressed. This understanding about natural urges proves valuable for psychosomatic well-being of the person.

Proper Handling of Urges can Prevent Numerous Health Problems

The negative emotions such as greed, hatred, jealousy, anger and grudge are the urges which Ayurveda suggests to suppress because doing so proves good for mental health and maintains harmony in brain chemistry. As against this, many physical urges like hunger, thirst, urine, stool and so on should never be suppressed but should be attended immediately so that body physiology doesn’t get affected seriously. Repeated suppression can permanently harm the body. Unfortunately large number people have no proper knowledge about, how urges should be handled. Sometimes knowingly and sometimes unknowingly, they mishandle their urges and invite numerous health problems. Many physical and mental illnesses seen in the society result from such erroneous handling of natural urges. Proper handling of urges can prevent most of these problems.

Properly Addressing Hunger

Hunger is the most common urge felt by all at least 3 or 4 times in 24 hours. Taking appropriate food is the only right way to address this urge. But due to various reasons, this urge is so many times either ignored or suppressed. Quite a few people do not eat on time and remain hungry for long. If this keeps happening repeatedly, then such persons become victims of numerous disorders ranging from hyperacidity & ulcers to weightloss & stomach cancer. A minor looking complecency can thus open the gates for long-standing dreadful pathologies. Suppressing other urges like thirst, urine, stool, gasp, cough, hiccup, sleep and sex too can also have severe ill-effects on health.

Properly Addressing Negative Emotions

Numerous patients suffering from hypertension and heart disease give history of unpeaceful mind. It is often found that their minds remain full of negative emotions like anger, hatred, jealosy and grudge. They affect their blood pressure, cardiac functioning as well as sleep and are responsible for making them ill. In women, such negative emotions can affect their menses, ovulation & endocrinal system and cause them a variety of problems ranging from premenstrual syndrome to infertility. No tablet or capsule can really cure such individuals unless they address their negative emotions.
